Let’s Reminisce

Let’s reminisce. Shall we? Well, today is my birthday. And here I am writing a post. 🙂 See my dedication?! Yesterday I was a bit down. Do you ever get the birthday blues? Thinking about where you are in life and nothing being like you thought it would be. Something like that. But then I remember that I have a wonderful life and nothing is perfect – even though some people sure make it seem like it is on their FBook and Instagram posts.

So, here I am on the big day. A happy girl, with a fantastic man in my life who loves me unconditionally, living on a gorgeous island. AND a new iPhone 6S in her hand. Whoo Hoooo!! I can finally download music.ly and possibly Pokemon Go (or is that already not cool?). My iPhone4 was so old it wouldn’t let me download any new apps that need iOs 8.

Anyways, my birthday also makes me reminisce about the younger times when things were easy and carefree. Who remembers these:

scratch
Scratch N Sniff Stickers
rainbow-colored
Rainbow Colored Heart Laces – These were in my sneaker roller skates!
library
Awwww, an old library card.
phone
90s Clear Phone . Had it. LOVED IT.
ribbon
Ribbon Barrettes. Jeannie and I tried to make these again – not as easy as it seems!
lloyd
And Lloyd Dobler. Never forget the Lloyd.

‏keira1. Have you heard about the new button for gmail? If you have an “oh, crap I shouldn’t have sent that email!” moment, they have the button for you. Well, at least for 30 seconds. Then you are SOL.

2. Congrats on the new emoticons out soon!! Esp the taco, I love tacos. But Spaniards are still waiting for their paella emoticon. Sign the petition now!

3. Check out my latest hot selling mug. But only if you’re maybe a little bitchy

4. Sorry, not sorry. Do you say sorry too much? NYT article about Why Women Apologize And Should Stop. I am guilty of it and I agree, time to stop!

5. 10 ways to take care of yourself before you burn out. Good list, I try to do all. You too!

6. Do/Did you have a cat with FIV? I did – And I miss him soooo SOOOOO very much. I was asked by this site to help bring more information about having/raising a cat with FIV. If you do, it would be so helpful to fill out the questionnaire to raise awareness and give your own personal story. Long live my Growler!!

30-Day Minimalism Challenge

I really like this y’all. I have never been into the writing of New Year’s Resolutions. They always seem to disappoint or frustrate because you never end up keeping most of them. So this year I decided to keep trying to be a better person. That’s it. Full stop. I’ve been trying to make a very conscious effort to find a little more balance and to simplify my surroundings. My boyfriend constantly feels I have these “piles” of things here, things there. Which maybe I do, but maybe I don’t. I know where everything is but I also know that I have too much stuff.

Trying to disconnect from the internet world is a biggie for me. Too much time spent on the computer with being dragged into a post on Facebook or a YouTube video that leads to more videos or all those fantastic ideas that I rarely look at again on Pinterest.  Even just checking things – your email, your bank account, your credit cards, your blog! Let’s try to step back from these and make more time for you. Maybe meditate, maybe a bike ride, maybe some lovely quiet time to read a book. All of those latter ideas sound so much better than than the former. Right?

When I saw this post, the 30-Day Minimalism Chart on the blog Into Mind, I knew this was awesome. Sign me up. “30 one-day assignments to help you dip your toes into minimalist living, discover lots of new things about yourself and get a big head start.”  I am going to print this out and do one assignment a day, in no particular order but never to skip a day. Who is with me?

Hey, HEY! We landed on a COMET!

Guys, I really don’t understand this obsession with Kim Kardashian’s ass. I mean this news is surpassing the news that we landed on a comet. A comet! The first time EVER! Peeps, please tell me that was more exciting than a picture of KK naked. I mean, she has like a rockin’ name, but again – WE.LANDED.ON.A.COMET.

OK, back to your originally broadcasted station.

Onward and upward! Only inspiring, happy, positive, funny posts from here on out. Relax. And enjoy!

1. Have you heard about Veronika? She is amazing. Started out with making coats for the homeless and it expanded. We all need more Veronikas in the world.

2. It is almost Halloween!! What is your costume going to be? Or better yet, what will your pumpkin look like? If you are still having difficulties with that last question, check out the 25+ ways to decorate a pumpkin. No carving!! I really like the famous faces and the pastel pumpkins. Tough choice!

3. She was the Erin Brockovich before Erin Brockovich. The forty year anniversary of the death of Karen Silkwood is Nov. 13. You might possibly remember the Academy Award-nominated film with Meryl Streep portraying Karen Silkwood. A tragic mystery that is still unsolved.

4. Okay, need some uplifting music? How about this. This kid CRACKS.ME.UP. I love him! Turn it UP.

5. Let’s just end this on a non-scary note. How about sharks? Without the spiky teeth. Yeah.

So Long, Farewell, Adios

The summer weather has officially come to an end. WAAHHHHH. I was so enjoying going on a bike ride in shorts and a t-shirt, really gonna miss that. And while I loathe speaking about the weather I make exceptions for awesome storms. Coming from Oklahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plains) where practically EVERY thunderstorm was amazing and then moving to Spain (where the rain stays mainly on the plain), I miss my storms.

October seems to be the month when a good one hits every few years or so. The last one I remember was about four or five years ago, which even resulted in a small tornado and sadly one death. I was home when the sky went black and the wind picked up and my plants sitting on the second floor balcony blew to the ground and the pots broke into tons of pieces. The storm that hit yesterday was expected but many people still seemed to be caught off guard. I was in Palma teaching when 50 litres of water per square meter fell in fifteen minutes. When I left I had to turn my car around twice from the road being too flooded to cross (while at each one there was at least one car that had tried to pass through the water and failed).

The lightning flashed while I drove to my next class, water was pouring down the streets with nowhere for it to go, cars were stranded in deep water and traffic jams were everywhere. Thank goodness there weren’t any deaths but the ambulances and firetrucks were busy. My boyfriend was at the dentist (yuck) when the storm hit and when he came home the house was a bit flooded but all the cats were there! YAY!

But the pool looked like this. Yikes. Hope the landlord has insurance.

ODDS and ENDS

1. I realized the other day that you are still cool if you are the person the little kids want to sit by at dinner time. I love going back to AZ where my oldest nephew proudly proclaims at every dinner with me – “I want to sit by KimmiComo”! And Felix’s niece Kate always want me to sit by her. Yeah, I still got it.

2. Do you ever feel swamped by all the news these days? I found a great site where you are emailed the top news of the day and why it is important. All written very clever. Check it out, the Skimm is a daily newsletter that simplifies the headlines for the educated professional who knows enough to know she needs more. We do the reading for you and explain it with fresh editorial content, breaking down what you need to know to start the conversation.

3. Is it really spring?! I am dying to go shopping for new clothes but I am saving up for a little car for me. I am thinking a Mini Cooper. I love them! So cute.

4. I had to check out this game that everyone was playing. Candy Crush Saga. Thanks. I’m now addicted.

5. This week is Mallorca’s “spring break” and most of my classes are canceled. So I decided to take the extra free time and try to organize all my teaching papers that have been in one huge pile that makes me start hyperventilating every time I glanced at them. Check it out! Organization at its finest! Being sarcastic … organizing has never been my strongest suit. I get irritated at all those organizing tips I continuously see on Pinterest. I always blast past them saying, nope, not gonna work here.

Hmmmm, maybe I do need some help. The cat even looks ready to flee.
