An Apple for Christmas

Happy two days after Christmas y’all! Did you get everything you wanted from Santa? I hope so! And you know what, if you didn’t, then just go out and buy it yourself. You deserve it!

I am happy to say I am the proud owner of an iPhone4! Ever since cell phones really started popping up on everyone’s ear I have been against them. I just didn’t want to be found so easily. Sometimes it is nice to hide, you know? But then when it came down to giving in I have always just had a simple cheap model. When I moved to Germany and then Spain the phones I had were always these inexpensive pay as you go. And that has been perfectly fine with me.

But it seemed like everyone had the latest phone – Blackberry or iPhone or ?? I don’t even know what is all out there. And I tease my friends who have these. Even though when I do play with their phone it does seem fun. With so many more things than my phone has… but STILL why do I need that? Then Felix got an iPhone4 a month ago and I said he was part of the cool group now. But not me! NO! I am just a cool chick with a silly cheap phone.

Well, Felix bought me an iPhone4 for Christmas. I still haven’t really checked it out too much, just got it up and running and of course downloaded What’sApp since everyone in Europe seems to talk to each other that way. Is What’sApp in the U.S? But I think I REALLY love it. And a bit of an ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……

I am part of the cool group!!

The Christmas Waitress Wrap

It really isn’t Christmas for me until I hear The Waitresses “Christmas Wrapping”. I LOVE this song. Don’t recognize this British band? Maybe you remember them from their hit “I Know What Boys Like”.  Yes?

I can’t believe this song came out in the year 1981!! I. Have. No. Comment.

Check out it out, unfortunately there is not an official video so just push play and TURN IT UP.

Those Crazy Mayans!

Okay, Dot (my mom) wanted me to make sure everyone is prepared for Dec. 21st. When I was there for Thanksgiving she said to me, “I want to talk to you about something and I don’t want you to think I am crazy but what are your plans for Dec. 21st?” I looked back at her with a bit of a grin because she has been all about this Mayan calendar for months now – more than months, over a year. So I answered, “Well, if the world is going to end anyways what kind of plans would I need to make?”

Mom (Dot to the rest of you) told me that it wasn’t the end of the world but this was a time that we haven’t experienced in a long time, about 400 years. The 12th baktun is changing to the 13th baktun (by the Mayan calendar standards) on Dec. 21st. The winter solstice with the earth lining up with the sun and the Milky Way galaxy might cause the earth’s polar axis to shift. Or possibly solar flares will wipe up the grids and we will have no access to electricity – wiping out any means of communication for an unprecedented amount of time.

You know what, who the hell knows. BUT one good thing to always have is an emergency plan. What exactly would you do if catastrophe struck? I do have a few plans in place – I know if there is an earthquake I would grab my cats, throw them (not hard) in their cat carrier and drive my ass quickly to Randa, the highest point that is closest to me. Sometimes Felix and I like to drive up there with sandwiches, on a clear day you can see from the North coast to the South coast!

But maybe tomorrow you should stock up on some non-perishable food and water and fill up your car with gas. Have a quick discussion with your loved ones about where they could find you or contact you in case something truly horrible did happen. For instance, I told my mom the first place I would go is to register at the U.S. Consulate. It’s never a bad thing to have an emergency plan in place. Just do it, okay? Dot says so!!

And to end on a lighter note. This is superbly awesome:

end of the world

When I find a song I like I play it OVER and OVER and OVER again. And since I have posted a lot lately of my Christmas favorites I am in heaven by just scrolling down on my blog and watching each video again and again. Happy Happy Joy Joy!!

Another thing that brings me joy? I have a pretty long list but at the top are my cats, Felix, my family, my friends, my students…. and the list goes on. This pic represents at least three things on that list.

1. My cat Growler. I am so thankful he is healthy after being diagnosed with FIV. Felix and I were very worried and so sad when we found out. But he has been the perfect picture of health! I chalk it up to love. Love CAN conquer all. But I can’t forget our other cats – Cow, Holmes, P Diddy and Eva. I love them all. Go ahead, call me the crazy cat lady. Meow.

2. My friends. I don’t have too many close friends, the older I get the more I have moved away from the ones that aren’t true. Which is fine with me. But Jeannette, Bess, Amy, Linda, Perla, Donita and my Loobirds (a group of girls that grew up together since high school -Steph, Susie, Beth, Roberta plus the aforementioned Bess, Amy and Linda) they are my rock. And I love them to pieces. In the picture is our Loobird symbol, a gift to all of us from Susie.

3. And of course my boyfriend, Felix. When I think of him it always puts a smile on my face. He is also my rock. We have been together for over ten years. From meeting in Virginia, to moving to Germany and then our adventure to Mallorca which has lasted more than seven years now! He makes me laugh out loud, smile from ear to ear; I can be completely goofy around him with strange faces or interesting dance moves and he loves me all the same. I love him so very much.

So enough with the cheese fest. Check out this pic. Growler Man, the Loobird xmas ornament, Papa Noel and one of my favorite pics of Felix and me.
