hi there · just how it is sometimes

Helloooooo? And you are SUPER DUPER!

HOLA! I want to thank all of my followers for um, well, following me. You guys totally rock.

And I just want to make a quick apology (which they say, as a blogger, you shouldn’t do). I know I have been absent on the blog and I am SUPER sorry. LO SIENTO!! Things are crazy, school is coming to an end and all the class times are changing. So some parents are wanting more English classes from me and my schedule has been a bit screwy. I have some great blog post ideas so please check back soon. I hope by next week things will have calmed down a bit.

But until then, I just want you to know THIS:

TWO HUNDRED YO!

Welcome to my TWO HUNDREDTH POST! Amazing, truly amazing. There have been times when I thought about quitting, but I’m still here. I’M STILL HERE! I know I am not a daily blogger, not even usually a weekly blogger but I try to send something out in cyberspace a few times a month. And I would like to say a big THANK YEEEEWWW (with my Okie accent) to all my friends, family and you random stop-byers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for checking in from time to time. I really ‘preciate all of you.

While I have only been blogging for almost THREE (!) years, I have been in Europe/Mallorca for much longer. And when I stop to think about it – Felix and I are going to celebrate TEN years together – I am sometimes in shock at how fast the time flies. So many things have happened to me since meeting Felix, moving to Germany and then Mallorca. I have somewhat conquered German, still trying to conquer Spanish. And I am really hoping to do some amazing things this year. So watch out world!

I decided to post a few (or more than a few) of my favorite pics from these past years. Enjoy!

I think this is my favorite pic of Palma that I have taken. A quiet, narrow Palma street in the early morning hours.
El Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid is AMAZING!
Chorizo, Jamon Serrano, Vino Tinto ~ Oh My!
La Seu in Palma, the Cathedral that took almost 400 years to build. Gorgeous!
Felix and I have fallen in love with Cornwall.
Child dressed in typical Mallorquin costume for the Binissalem wine festival.
Lago Di Garda, Italy
Plaza Espana, Barcelona – LOVE Barcelona
My fabulous parents. Thanks Mom and Dad. And happy 46th anniversary today! ox
Felix (Love Him!) and me overlooking the island of Dragonera
These four adorable creatures came into my life seven years ago. And now I can’t imagine life without them.

USA First Stop – NYC

A little over a month ago I made my way back to the USA. First stop, New York City.

Almost immediately after arriving at my friend’s place in Park Slope, Brooklyn, we headed out for sushi and discussed upcoming events; Norah Jones concert at Prospect Park that evening and the itinerary for the Loos weekend in New York. The Whos? The LOOS! A group of eight rockin’ but diverse girls who went to high school together in the collegiate town of Stillwater, OK.

Shall we see what fun we got into? Part Uno.

Bess, Drew and I decided to brave the rainy rainy weather to see nine-time Grammy winner Norah Jones at Celebrate Brooklyn! in Prospect Park. I love Norah, she has an angelic voice and she can ROCK the guitar and piano. It was a soggy night with umbrellas strategically placed over one’s head to keep the rain off, and not stab someone in the eye. An impressive crowd still gathered and Norah told us “You have a beautiful bouquet of umbrellas”.

So far, five out of eight had arrived in New York. To make sure we started it off right we went to Grimaldi’s Pizza in Brooklyn for some delicious pie. Then we needed to work off all the pizza we ate. So off to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge!! I was super excited, after living in Manhattan for 2 years and the east coast for 4, I had never done this. Let’s GO!

Afterwards, a few silly pics on the NYC subway.

hehe. and ….

By now, after all of our shenanigans, Beth had arrived, we paid and got the keys to our Manhattan apartment rental for the weekend, we went to the World Trade Center site, wandered around the NYSE, bought some I HEART NYC t-shirts, and headed back to Bess’s place for some homemade enchiladas and margaritas.

hi there

dadadada dum dum…. My Persona!

I hope you caught the beat. Sing it to My Sharona, but it is dadadada dum dum MY PERSONA!

There you go. Good job.

Just hoppin’ back on to say, my persona has changed! For the better. For years now, ever since I moved to Europe whenever I have to introduce myself the comeback is always “Ahh, like Kim Basinger”. And I politely smile and nod, yes, like Kim Basinger, but not really.  And last week I took my students (that I teach English to), to a movie. And on the drive, with 5 of us squished into an Audi TT, one of them said “Kim”. I answered yes? And then my newest student, Tony, said “Like Kim Possible”.

YES! Exactly like Kim Possible – fashionista, cheerleader, straight- (er) A student, and super secret agent. Yup, that’s me.

hi there

if i may introduce myself.

Fremont-LV-12-99-8I am constantly asked the question : “How did an American girl from Oklahoma end up living on the island of Mallorca with a German boyfriend?”. Well, the answer is simple really. It was fate. Do you believe in fate? Because I do. I would never be here if I had not made plans to see my friend in Vegas when I was there for work.  And I would never be here if my job had not taken me to Vegas. And I would not be here if I did not decide, what the hell, just go to the wedding. It might be fun.

Seeing my friend at the roulette table, we placed chips on our favorite numbers, ordered a bloody mary and tried to catch up. It was difficult, trying to concentrate on what numbers were calling my name and on my friend telling me how in love she was and that I must come to the wedding.  I would love to, I said. Knowing full and well that it really depended on my time available. My job had become out of control. They were constantly flying me to places to shoot videos and I was spending late nights and unfortunately, weekends, in the office.  When the date finally came around I decided to take the weekend off, visit my cousin, some friends in D.C. and go to the wedding.

My date to the wedding was my friends two year old son. He was a good date, didn’t complain when I danced with other men and let me smoke as many cigarettes as I wanted…as long as I stayed far away from him when doing so. The ceremony had been underway for a good ten minutes when a group of four snuck in late. It was hard to miss them, the wedding was small and outside so if you were late, you were busted. Alas, I had heard the Germans would be there but I wasn’t interested. A complicated relationship had ended a few months ago and getting into a new serious relationship was not on my radar. But after a few cocktails I asked the bride again, who was that cute guy she introduced me to earlier? Within seconds, it was, K this is The German, The German this is K. And I guess I can say, it was true love at second sight. I dont believe that crap about love at first sight anyways, you always need a second glance. He sang a lullabye to my date and then we exchanged numbers. He was heading to Miami, FL for a fun boys weekend and I, back to work. I hoped to hear from him again but knew after a night in Miami, my chances were limited.

I was living in the fan-fucking-tastic city of Manhattan and when I returned home my answering machine light was blinking. Naturally, I had been away for three days so of course I, being miss social, would have some messages. And to my delight and surprise,  The German was one of them. We dated long distance for six months (with me, a visit to Germany and him, a visit to NYC) and then I decided to leave my job of inappropriate comments from older men in my world of advertising and go to a completely different realm of life. I moved to Germany the day before Christmas with all of my belongings, including my bike and snowboard, piled around my feet. It was just the beginning.
