War Is (Not) Over

I know it’s almost Christmas time. I know so many of you have hectic lives with a job, children, family and just life in general. But you also are excited for the holidays: the time to be with family, have a little downtime, to wrap presents you picked out especially for your son, your daughter, your best friend, just to see them smile.

But there are children, women, men in Aleppo who REALLY need your help. My heart breaks every time I see a video or read a story about children hurt, children dying, the atrocities that are happening. And I always wonder how can I help? What is the best way to help and see that it is happening. Because they need help NOW. And I have found The Compassion Collective to help with a lightning-fast emergency fund-raiser for immediate and effective on-the-ground assistance to Aleppo. As of Saturday morning they (YOU, WE) have raised $1,168,311.00 for our brothers, sisters and children and Aleppo and Syria. I love this. And my money is sent. Here is the link to help and contribute.

Thinking of Aleppo. Let’s hope war is over soon. Soon the John Lennon video.

Thanks everyone.

HIWD!!

Happy International Women’s Day! Time to realize how far we’ve come, and how far we have yet to go in the pursuit for gender equality.

I have so many strong women in my life that I am thankful for every day. They make my life happier, easier and is one of the reasons I am a strong woman myself. But there is still so much more to be done for women. From wage equality (GO PATRICIA ARQUETTE!) to girls going to schools to no more child brides to stopping the hate.

This video really touched me, seeing the struggle that is still there for so many women. Please watch. The more we know, the better we can help.

BREAK THE HATE.

30-Day Minimalism Challenge

I really like this y’all. I have never been into the writing of New Year’s Resolutions. They always seem to disappoint or frustrate because you never end up keeping most of them. So this year I decided to keep trying to be a better person. That’s it. Full stop. I’ve been trying to make a very conscious effort to find a little more balance and to simplify my surroundings. My boyfriend constantly feels I have these “piles” of things here, things there. Which maybe I do, but maybe I don’t. I know where everything is but I also know that I have too much stuff.

Trying to disconnect from the internet world is a biggie for me. Too much time spent on the computer with being dragged into a post on Facebook or a YouTube video that leads to more videos or all those fantastic ideas that I rarely look at again on Pinterest.  Even just checking things – your email, your bank account, your credit cards, your blog! Let’s try to step back from these and make more time for you. Maybe meditate, maybe a bike ride, maybe some lovely quiet time to read a book. All of those latter ideas sound so much better than than the former. Right?

When I saw this post, the 30-Day Minimalism Chart on the blog Into Mind, I knew this was awesome. Sign me up. “30 one-day assignments to help you dip your toes into minimalist living, discover lots of new things about yourself and get a big head start.”  I am going to print this out and do one assignment a day, in no particular order but never to skip a day. Who is with me?

Favorite Christmas song #1

Is it starting to feel like Christmas? I am still working, rushing about here and there, so it doesn’t yet really feel like Christmas. BUT this weekend I have been listening to Christmas songs because I want to make a Christmas CD for my friends. What are your favorites?

Have you joined Spotify? Because if you haven’t, you are missing out! Spotify rocks. Pun intended? C’mon, you can listen to (almost) anything you want! I love LOVE love it. Okay, so Taylor Swift said Spotify couldn’t use her songs. Not very Christmassy, right? Just wants all the $$$$. I will move on ….

My favorites range from silly (Christmas Wrapping – The Waitresses) to fun (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas) to the very beautiful. I love them all so much. For the rest of December I will be posting my favorite Christmas songs. Who knows, maybe I will go crazy (meaning “I have time”) and post something else … but at the moment it is all about the music. Because really, that is ALL it is ever about. At least for me. Music is EVERYTHING!!! Now listen up my friends. This is my so very most favorite. And it is in the very beautiful category. Or maybe the jazz category (which is beautiful).

For you, the Charlie Brown Christmas dance. And YES, you must get up and dance – in whatever style you want. But dance, my friends. Dance.

ps – GO SNOOPY!!

GOOOOAAAALLLLLL

Let the games begin! It’s World Cup time!

Ever since moving to Europe over ten years (!!!!!) ago I have slowly warmed to soccer…. er, football. I’ve always been a girl who loves sports – college basketball is my favorite, with college football (american) running a close second. GO OSU COWBOYS! But soccer was never really on my radar – kinda like a lot of Americans. But s l o w l y it has been making its way to being a more popular sport. Let’s just thank Mr. David Beckham right now for that, shall we?

So, here we are FIFA World Cup 2014. Who are you rooting for? Who do you think will win? As I type this, I am watching the first game, Brazil vs. Croatia. It’s 1-1. I have a feeling Brazil will win this game and most of my boy students are saying Brazil will win the cup. We will find out! I always secretly love it when my students ask  me who my favorite football (european) team is … for them, it is a VERY important question! For most of them their answer is BARCA! As in Barcelona. But one is for Real Madrid. Sadly, the Mallorca football team sucks. My answer always varies, sometimes I say Barca, sometimes Real and sometimes GERMANY!

Good luck to all the teams competing in this year’s FIFA World Cup. For me, I have three favorites.

GO USA! GO GERMANY! GO SPAIN!

Namaste, Y’all

I went to my first Bikram Yoga class in Palma and I loved it! Combine a sauna with yoga and there is nothing wrong with that. It had been a bit of time since I last did yoga and some of the postures were really difficult for me. But I reminded myself that this is my first class and it is okay to be a bit shaky. And I had my brand new bag so things were looking up. It’s so awesome, I bought it from this fun online shop.

namaste_yall_tote_bag.

The instructor was experienced and super friendly. She would check on me a few times throughout the hour and a half class to make sure I hadn’t passed out yet. The room was also very nice, super spacious with plenty of mirrors.

What is Bikram Yoga you might ask? Bikram Yoga is a system of yoga that Bikram Choudhury synthesized from traditional hatha yoga techniques.  All Bikram Yoga classes run for 90 minutes and consist of the same series of 26 postures, including two breathing exercises. Bikram Yoga is ideally practiced in a room heated to 105°F (≈ 40.6°C) with a humidity of 40%. Or again, 26 yoga postions in a sauna. And for someone who cannot get warm enough it was amazeballs. I sweat my ass off, even my SHINS were sweating!  Seriously, get over there.

And like them on Facebook! Bikram Yoga Mallorca They always post inspiring quotes, motivated pics and information about yoga and just keeping healthy. Here is their post from the other day. I can will be able to do that!
