HNY!

Happy New Year YO!!

How did you celebrate ringing in the new year? Felix and I went to Tahini restaurant in Puerto Portals for a delish meal of sushi, dumplings and some kind of chicken thingy…. my new fav from there is Foie Gras sushi. O.M.G. If they had given me a plate of only that I would have been a very happy camper. But that’s pretty fattening? Right? Foie Gras. Must check on that.

And then we ended up at Ritzi’s Club. It was a last minute decision since there was only 10 min before the new year and I didn’t want to be in the car. Our friend’s boyfriend is the owner and we were treated to free everything there – so nice of them! Rosé champagne, scotch, dancing on the tables! Oh my. We ended up at home around SEVEN IN THE MORNING! Yes, I had a headache all day yesterday.

But here is to a new year! I say good riddance to 2011 – it really sucked.

Happy 2012 My Friends! Wishing you all peace, love, prosperity and just one hell of a good time. CHEERS!

Despedida de Soltero

Saturday was my first Spanish bachelorette party (despedida de soltero). And I am STILL a little tired from the madness, so excuse any grammatical mistakes (actually now and always) please. Or don’t excuse, whatever you need to do. Just let it go! Grrrrrr…. I am CRANKY today!

The despedida was an all day event and here is how it went down.

Unsuspecting Marga arriving at the airport.

The gang with bewildered baby Alejandro (so cute!). And why am I standing so strange? At least the champagne glass matches my dress. Whew. Airport surprise, check. Puro Beach next.

One of my favorite haunts, I have already “talked” about it here.

A hazy but still beautiful view of Palma de Mallorca.

Drinks by the sea? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Next! Off to Son Antem, again another favorite. We had some lunch, went to the holistic spa, then dressed up the bachelorette as Amy Winehouse and went for some dinner at Cosa Nostra in Palma. I had never been to Cosa Nostra and I will never go back. See! I can give a bad review! The food was not good. From the four appetizers, I can only recommend the omelet. Entre? I guess the pizza was okay. All the girls thought the sangaria was terrible, I mean really, how the hell can you mess up sangaria? And it seemed to be the place to bring your bday party or bachelorette party, or some kind of party. For old me, no bueno.

And the chaos begins …..

The Amy Winehouse wig got a little out of control ……

The night ended at Tito’s, rumored to be the best discotech of Palma. I have long made much fun over Tito’s. When The German and I eat at Mediterraneo (so wish we would have eaten there, great food), which is right next to Tito’s, the buses pull up from party town S’Arenal and we watch the hordes of teenaged kids rush off the bus and pile into the elevator to take them up the ten floors to the fluorescent light throbbing disco.

So we went, surprisingly there weren’t too many teenagers, maybe because schools are back in session. The scene was us islanders (like me!), the tourists, or the dancers.

For example, him.

Oh my. And it got even more caliente. Well, for Marga….

And then the show began!

She seemed excited to start work.

She could contort herself into any shape. I was mesmerized. And then decided to call it the night where a continuous loop of lady gaga kept going through my head … “Roma roma-ma, Gaga, ooh la la”

Good Night!

W Hotel Scottsdale

It’s hot in Surprise, AZ. Like, blazing hot. 115F to be exact.

A few trips to the community pool with my family was nice. But after kids splashing me, an older lady complaining to me that they closed half of the pool to swim camp and teenagers making out that looked 13 it was nice to make a change. Time for the pool at the W Hotel in Scottsdale.

Lemme tell you. It was nice. No, wait, more than that. It was NICE. Kids and splashes were replaced with lounge chairs and pool side service. And did I mention that we weren’t even staying at the hotel? Well, not that night at least. The first day was a Friday, we had no problem getting into the pool area and immediately ordering shrimp ceviche and Dos Equis. Here is what the pool looked like on Friday.

Aannnnnnddd here is what it looked like on Saturday.

A completely different world! We were hotel guests for that evening, otherwise we would have never made it to this scene. The weekends at the W are happening. Drinks were flowing, the DJ was spinnin’ and the people were crazy, yo! The girlies had an outift for walking to their cabana, then another outfit for lounging in the cabana, and then a bikini for the pool. The hair was piled, the makeup was layered and the game was on. I was none of that and I do believe I heard a collective gasp when I actually went under the water to cool off.

What more could two hot girls want? And I meant hot, in both senses.

I do love the W Hotels. They are always modern with a comfortable feel. A flat screen tv, bath products from Bliss and an excellent Sushi restaurant is what we encountered at this one.  We loved it so much we came back to the pool on Monday and enjoyed it one more time. Great time to beat the heat and relax in a hip (but sometimes loud) atmosphere. Go try it out for yourself!

NYC Take Three

NYC take three. Or should it be, take thee? I LOVE LOVE LOVE NEW YORK CITY!

Our last full day together, sniff sniff. The next day everyone will be flying back to their kids, their husbands, their normal routine. Except for me. My travels are only starting. But the Loos weekend in NYC was coming to an end. Again, sniffles.

Hurry it up gals, we got people to see and places to be. And what would be a trip to Manhattan without stopping at Central Park? It would be NOTHING. Nothing I tell ya.

Awww cute lil horsey. Is the taxi dude checkin’ me out? Or the horse?

Birds on a wire. (In front of the Plaza hotel)

Eight Loos. On a Rock. In Central Park, Manhattan. USA.

I always love a ride on the Central Park Merry-Go-Round. Yeehaw!

After the funness at Central Park we walked to the East Side to grab a burger. Cheeburger Cheeburger. And a Bloody Mary. Or Two. Most of the gang still needed to buy some tchotchkes, so back to Times Square we go. Bess and I needed no more New York themed stuff so since it was WORLD CUP month, we headed to the closest bar for a Bloody Mary. Or Two.

We did NOT go to Olive Garden to watch the game. GO GERMANY! GO USA! GO SPAIN!

Our good friend and SHS ’89 classmate, Kary, works at Shaffer City in the Meatpacking District. He was going to cook us up a dinner made specially for us. Yippee! If you go there, be sure to ask for Kary the chef to make your dinner. You will not be disappointed. I don’t have pics of everything from our 7-course meal, but here are a few of the deliciousness that was served up by the friendly staff.

Love oysters.

Meat, potato goodness in special sauce. Mmmmmm….

I was in heaven with the brownie dessert.

ALL of the Loos, with Kary, the chef. Thanks Goolsby!

Oh, you think that’s it? We are not done yet. The night is young. And the night calls for ….. KAROKE. Yo. Bring it 80s music.

DELTA DAWN WHAT’S THAT FLOWER YOU HAVE ON. COULD IT BE A FADED ROSE FROM DAYS GONE BYYYYYYYYYYY

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. Susie and I are rockin’ the mic.

There you have it my friends. The incredible tales of the Loos take over Manhattan. Until next time. I am Loo Loo Loobird.

You say it’s your birthday nananananana

Hey, Marga turned TWENTY on Friday. Like. No. Way. Party in the spanish countryside.

The birthday girl got a new camera. Guess what she was doing the entire party? “Kim”, click. Kim turns her head, click. Kim coughs, click.

spanish rasta cousin

Boys will be boys. Reminds me of this restaurant that I see when I drive to Canyamel in the NE of the island, Los Melones.

Mmmm, thank you. Don’t mind if I do.

Mmmmm, cakes, plural. Even better.

Cuatro, the spanish doggie with a hurt foot. See the lil bit of red, that is her bandaid. Cuatro you look a bit guilty. Did you pee in the punch?
