OK, I love Grease. I love Xanadu. I love Pulp Fiction. I love Vinnie Barbarino, Saturday Night Fever, Hairspray and definitely Urban Cowboy! But this new Christmas song, “I think you might like it” from Olivia Newton-John and Johnny just makes me say WHAT THE…. ?
Granted all proceeds go to charity. ONJs to Breast Cancer and Johns to the The Jett Travolta Foundation and the Special Olympics. So watch and buy, I guess!
This is just the beginning of my Christmas blog … stay tuned for better things than this video! (Which won’t be too difficult)
Thanksgiving has passed and thankfully this year I was able to enjoy it with my family in the USA. I am here for my dad’s 70th birthday which sometimes falls on Turkey Day, but not this year. We enjoyed the norm – turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberrries, green bean casserole and several pies to choose from, pumpkin being my favorite.
The day has gone and today we get to enjoy the leftovers. Turkey and cranberry sandwich anyone? And tomorrow is dad’s birthday. I think his greatest present will be if Oklahoma State wins against OU in the Bedlam game tomorrow so let’s keep all things crossed for that. My dad’s name is Charles but usually goes by Chuck. In the spirit of still lingering with Thanksgiving and the birthday I am ending with one of my favorite childhood memories – Charlie Brown. Nothing is better than enjoying life with good friends and family. Hope all of you enjoyed the day like that as well.
Are you all missing my lovely words of wisdom? My fascinating bantering of life and more?! What? I can’t hear you. I will take that as a resounding YES. Well, I will be back with all of that soon. But in the meantime, it is almost my most favorite holiday of the year – HALLOWEEN!! What are you guys gonna be for the day?
As I have mentioned before (but still really never gone into full detail) I teach English here on the island. Mostly to kids but I have three sisters from Ecuador that are in their 30s and they are so fun to teach. But for my kiddos this week and next for Halloween we are carving pumpkins. I never see any Jack-O-Lanterns here on the island so I hope my neighbors find mine cool – and not weird. Will show the pumpkins of my students soon.
As soon as I began to write I realized it was Tuesday! And this could be a Track Tuesday post. Music ROCKS.
Do you know this Christmas song? I remember learning it when I was a wee child at Sangre Ridge elementary school in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I start singing it around the first of December and randomly throughout the year. If you know me personally, you know that is completely normal for me.
It is usually sung as a round (and I LOVE singing in rounds!!! I don’t know why… is that a mental problem?) It is also I believe an English (meaning UK) Christmas song and maybe I am just getting back to my roots – my Grandpa on my father’s side was almost, if not, 100% English. So, listen up, have a spot of tea if you wish and sing along! And if you have some friends by you, then by George, strike up that round.
Oh, and if any of you can tell me what a ha’penny is, I would really ‘preciate it. Cheers!
Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat
If you haven’t got a penny then a ha’penny will do
If you haven’t got a ha’penny then GOD BLESS YOU
And if I don’t make it back online before Sunday, a blessed Christmas to each and every one of you.
Fiesta de San Sebastian was last night in Palma. And dude, was it cold. It did warm up in the vicinity of throngs of people and fire but still, freaking cold for Mallorca. My first time to celebrate San Sebastian and it won’t be my last. Policia blocked off Paseo Maritimo and the parade took place there. Not really sure if the Mallorquins would actually call it a parade but it was quite a show.
The second I arrived to Paseo Maritimo this guy walked out from the shadows in full attire of the devil WITH a chainsaw. He started it up right beside me and I almost screamed. I tried to casually step to the side hoping this was part of the fiesta and not some mad psycho killer. But I did hear some screams when he stepped into the “parade”. Scary yo.
Check out the pics, unfortunately I couldn’t capture the hundreds of people running up the stairs to the cathedral, each with a lit torch in their hands. So cool. Then came the part where the bishop (San Sebastian?) fought with the dragon and somehow they projected the entire side of the cathedral with what looked like flying bat people. Seriously hope some of you can see San Sebastian 2012. Til then ….
