Hammam Palma

hammam

Ahhhhh….. still thinking about my lovely time at Hammam Palma yesterday. A massage was definitely in order and it was a darn good one! Even got my face and scalp massaged. Have you ever been to a hammam, or Turkish bath? My first experience with one was a few years ago in Marrakech where I did the whole experience – steam, warm water sloshed over me with a bucket and then the fun begins; you are lathered up with black soap and then the attendant dons a loofah glove and vigorously exfoliates you from head to toe. Your body won’t know what hit it. And then off to a massage with oils. Heaven.

Yesterday was my first time at Hammam Palma. I had been searching for places for Felix and me to get massages. And it is seriously insane out there – either the place has closed for the winter season, closed on the weekends (what?!) or booked for months in advance. It was truly frustrating. Imagine my total glee when my email that was sent the night before was answered when I checked emails in the morning. And their answer was YES! All I had to answer was how long massage we wanted, our names and a phone number and we were booked. No calling and waiting, no giving a credit card. Thank you!

We arrived at 15:00 and were given towels and swim footwear to be worn inside the hammam. They want you to relax and experience the thermal bath and sauna for about an hour before your massage. They offer 15, 30 and 60 minute massages. They also offer the whole experience – black soap, exfoliation and massage if you wanted to be completely pampered. But just remember with the thermal spa you need to add an hour to whatever experience you choose. We scheduled an hour massage and were there two and a half hours.

It was so needed to take away stress and have a place that makes it easy and comfortable to do. I will be back very soon! Maybe I will do the complete experience next time. Stay tuned!

The Safety Pin

safety_pin2

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that Hillary Clinton lost the U.S. Presidential election. And the aftermath from this shock has hit the world hard. I truly believed when I woke up Wednesday morning that I would see an amazing headline on my computer of “Hillary Clinton Wins Presidential Election.” Sadly, that was not the case and it was “Trump Wins In Surprising Victory.” Not only was I stunned but also sad, appalled and completely confused. How did this happen? I saw for weeks when reading the NY Times that Hillary was predicted to win with around 85% chance.

But it happened.

And now here we are, trying to pick up the pieces, trying to find our way back to make sure that Trump cannot, will not, spew his bigot, racist, hateful self to our lives, our friends’ lives – those who are now very concerned and scared and worried that they will be deported or become victims of hate or more. And I have seen from so many people already saying that we got their backs. We will be there for them. Now, when they need it the most. And always.

But even more than that, we will show compassion and make people remember that love trumps hate. I am stepping up my game even more. I will open doors, smile at people even if they don’t smile back, give to the poor, help a neighbor in need, whatever it is that needs to be done to remind people that this is the right way to live.

Trump won. And I will give him the chance to lead. But never forget Mr. Trump, we are watching. And if you do things which are detrimental to people’s well-being, trust me, you will hear from us. We will fight, we will protest, we will protect the things that so vehemently need protecting. We will not back down from something that is right and good.

How can you show your support? It’s simple. It really is. Wear a safety pin on your jacket. This started after the Brexit and people wanted to show others who might be scared that they are there to help. A safety pin states – You are safe with me. It shows you believe in a better world and you will protect those who cannot protect themselves. It’s a small symbol with a big message. And one that the world truly needs right now. #safetypin

Torralbenc Hotel ~ Menorca

You guys, you must go to this hotel in Menorca. In case you don’t know, Menorca is Mallorca’s little sister. A smaller island just northeast of Mallorca.

Torralbenc Hotel. SO NICE. Enjoy the chic whitewashed farmhouse buildings surrounded by grass plains and rosemary. It’s so peaceful and was the perfect place for Felix and me to celebrate our 14th (!) anniversary. We took the ferry from Mallorca to Menorca with our car. It was so simple and fun.

The 19th-century homestead has been reinvented by Antonio Esteva, who’s usually found designing luxurious private villas. And this one has it all. Modern minimalist rooms and suites have all white everything, parquet floors, balconies, some have private pools, and all the modern conveniences. And get this – breakfast is included, but not just that, you can have it delivered to your room and they set it up on your terrace for you. Seriously, stop. You had me at breakfast delivered to your terrace. And check it out.

Yeah, all that can be yours.

We ate the two nights at the hotel restaurant – great food! Next time we might venture out to a restaurant nearby. During the days we hung out at the long, rectangular, seawater pool, got a massage at their spa and drank some Menorcan beer. You have sea view but the beach is about 3 km away. Torralbenc has bikes to borrow so you could bike to Cala en Porter if you feel like beaching it up. How about this view:

img_4596Pretty hot, right? And the view to the sea ain’t bad either. 😉

If you want more info about Menorca, you can look at Menorca Part UNO and Menorca Part DOS.

A few more pictures of the place. Go and enjoy it as soon as you can. I know I will be back soon too. See you there!

Happy Birthday Pablo!

One of my favorite artists, Pablo Picasso (Spanish), would have been 135 years old today. Obviously not like anyone is reaching this age but 135, nonetheless. I remember going to the Picasso museum in Madrid when I was a young tyke just learning the world, venturing out on my own at age 20. And I loved it. I didn’t want to leave. His creations were so original and inspiring and beautiful I could have stared at them for weeks.

In his Blue Period my favorite was The Old Guitarist created in 1903.

In his Rose Period, my favorite is Garcon a la pipe, created in 1905.

His African influenced period was next and then Cubism. Both I know about but they are not my favorites. The most popular I would think from his Cubism period would be Three Musicians.

.And the last is his Classicism and Surrealism period. There are so many artworks from Picasso that I love dearly from this time frame. I guess I like the funky take on a human face or his love of the minotaur in a lot of his works. But my favorite is Girl before a Mirror (1932). This shows Picasso’s mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter, one of his favorite subjects in the early 1930s. Her white-haloed profile, rendered in a smooth lavender pink, appears serene. But it merges with a more roughly painted, frontal view of her face—a crescent, like the moon, yet intensely yellow, like the sun, and “made up” with a gilding of rouge, lipstick, and green eye-shadow. Perhaps the painting suggests both her day-self and her night-self, both her tranquillity and her vitality, but also the transition from an innocent girl to a worldly woman aware of her own sexuality.

.Well played Sir! You are deeply missed. Hope the heavens are throwing you one heck of a party.

Let’s Reminisce

Let’s reminisce. Shall we? Well, today is my birthday. And here I am writing a post. 🙂 See my dedication?! Yesterday I was a bit down. Do you ever get the birthday blues? Thinking about where you are in life and nothing being like you thought it would be. Something like that. But then I remember that I have a wonderful life and nothing is perfect – even though some people sure make it seem like it is on their FBook and Instagram posts.

So, here I am on the big day. A happy girl, with a fantastic man in my life who loves me unconditionally, living on a gorgeous island. AND a new iPhone 6S in her hand. Whoo Hoooo!! I can finally download music.ly and possibly Pokemon Go (or is that already not cool?). My iPhone4 was so old it wouldn’t let me download any new apps that need iOs 8.

Anyways, my birthday also makes me reminisce about the younger times when things were easy and carefree. Who remembers these:

scratch
Scratch N Sniff Stickers

Rainbow Colored Heart Laces – These were in my sneaker roller skates!
library
Awwww, an old library card.
phone

And Lloyd Dobler. Never forget the Lloyd.
