Happy VD

In honor of Saint Valentine I had two true love topics to choose from to write about. The first topic is something you may see me continuously bring you live up-to-the-minute updates until April 29, The Royal Wedding, yo!

OR

We can talk about the TwoDaLoo. Do you know? Do you HAVE one? The TwoDaLoo is a water-conserving toilet for couples. In fact, the product page goes so far as to claim that this toilet can help “save rocky marriages and the planet.”

.

Ahem. I decided on the former. Not shittin’ you.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have chosen their best man and maid of honor! And no surprise, Prince Harry will be the best man while Kate’s sister Pippa will be her maid of honor. So far the only rest of the wedding party announced were the children, with Camilla’s granddaughter, Eliza Lopes, age 3, being included in the group.

Sorry it is not the most ground breaking news of the day… maybe I should have stuck with talking about the TwoDaLoo.

The legacy of a prince

Where were you when Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married? I was a young girl of 10, having just moved to Oklahoma from Wisconsin. I remember actually setting an alarm and getting up around the way too early hour of 5am to watch the ceremony. I can still picture lying on the floor with my pillow and blanket, never taking my eyes off the TV. The dress, her shyness, the carriage that took them through the streets of well-wishers, we all thought it was like a dream come true. The fairy tale wedding of a young, beautiful woman marrying her prince.

And we know how that ended. Tragically.

Since that wedding I have been in awe of Princess Diana. My mom had this book about her, mostly pictures of her many fashionable outfits, and I would look at it over and over again. I thought she was one of the most beautiful women in the world and the struggles she went through made me only love her more. On that fateful day of her death in Paris, I was in San Diego with a group of girlfriends. We were in shock like the rest of the world, possibly me more than the others, I think they finally told me to shut up when they couldn”t stand hearing me say, ” I can’t believe she is dead”, one more time.

The news station was showing several different times of her life, and I took a picture of the one showing her in her wedding gown. When I had my pictures developed that one of Diana was completely red, you can see her, it is just red. I found it a bit spooky. It wasn’t my film, or the TV, it was Princess Di coming back to me in my camera. Shut up again?

And now, her eldest son, Prince William has asked Kate Middleton to become his wife, and quite possibly the future King and Queen of England. The commoner to be a Princess – every girls dream! Well, mine at least. Waity Katie no more, they dated for over eight years and he finally proposed. (So there is hope!) He gave her his mum’s ring. William saying he has a romantic side and blushing, Kate saying the proposal was romantic. They look very in love and the perfect Prince with his beautiful Princess.

Sigh. Thank you, William and Kate, for being the prince and princess (to be) that little girls dream of.

La Boda

My first Spanish wedding this weekend. Marga y Miguel Ángel were married Oct. 23, 2010 at the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca.

I have never mentioned how amazingly beautiful this cathedral is, and I guess you must take my word, but, it is. GORGEOUS. I never seem to get the time right (or know when the right time is) for when the cathedral is open. So I usually don’t get to go inside. I did enjoy a lovely Easter service there in 2009, with the King Juan Carlos. Yes, he invited me.

And if you believe that I have some ocean front property in Arizona. Ahh, I love Mr. George Strait.

Back to the wedding, and the Cathedral! The Cathedral is more commonly referred to here as La Seu, and it took almost 400 years to complete. That’s a long damn time. May I present to you, La Seu:

And a picture I took of it last year that I love. I think when I open my art gallery in Palma, this will be a main print. What do you think?

Cool huh? As I have already mentioned, the wedding took place at the Cathedral, not too shabby, eh? I was told to be there at 17:00 (that’s 5 p.m. to you americans) and as the norm, I was the first one there. Let’s just say, Spanish people are not the most prompt. And I know my friend Bess is rolling her eyes right now! Cos, let’s just say I used to be not the most prompt either. Fashionably late was my favorite theme. So, I have changed my ways, I guess chalk it up to getting older. Or maybe Bess just whipped me into shape.

The crowd began to gather, the invitees and the touristees. When finally, the bride arrived in a black car with her father and her in the back. The groom was excited but anxious, and he opened her door. A kiss on both cheeks for each and then she pinned his boutonniere. A Spanish wedding in La Seu then ensued.

Wishing Marga y Miguel Ángel all the happiness in the future. Congrats!

Let’s hold hands and say together:

For each and every one of you out there who has fear and sadness in your life… whether it comes from bullying or hard times or a loss of spirit. Remember that you are a wonderful human being, no one is perfect. And yes, it DOES get better. Do not give up. I know things can get hard but keep your head up, be strong and stay that beautiful soul that God created within you. I enjoyed this quote, and am passing it on to you.

May today there be peace within you.  May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.  May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

I Think I’m in Love

With my new dress!

I went shopping yesterday to beat the PMS blues (tmi?) and found the perfect dress I have been looking for to celebrate my birthday in October. Thank God this year is not the BIG number. But, a girl always needs a new outfit for her birthday.

A light pink and grey striped dress with a loose-fit top and tight skirt. From Mango at a steal for 40 Euro. Go get one before they are all gone!

But don’t you dare wear it to my bday party.

G-L-O-R-I-A !!

Last night, at 22h, I saw the legendary Patti Smith perform in front of hundreds at the gardens of the Palau Comtes d’Aiamans in Lloseta, Mallorca. Thank you Patti, or Ms. Smith. The night will stay etched in my memory always.

“Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us”

This is a picture of the world’s smallest beer.

Patti and band.

Patti. Impressive.
