Di Another Day

I found it! The picture I was telling you two posts ago – Legacy of a Prince. I took this picture when Princess Diana died and the news was showing her pictures on the television screen.

Mine that I took turned out all red, the only picture in my roll of film that did. Oooooohhhh spooky!!

oooooooklahoma where the wind....

Bedlam, it’s ON

OSU vs. OU today. Bedlam brawl, and the first one where the Cowboys actually have a good chance! When I was at OSU our football team was not the greatest. And it even went downhill from then. But somewhere between there and here, we have improved. To the extent that we could be #1 in the Big 12. No. Way.

ORANGE. POWER. I could just keep spitting out all the things we yell, but I will spare you. When I was a freshman I pledged the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and we did Freshmen Follies with the Alpha Gamma Rho house (the cute Ag boys …. SO CUTE). We had to sing songs pertaining to some theme surrounded by OSU and our director said when we sang OSU, it sounded like Dirty Old Shoe. I still think of that whenever I say OSU.

So GO DIRTY OLD SHOE!! Kick some sooner butt.

The legacy of a prince

Where were you when Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married? I was a young girl of 10, having just moved to Oklahoma from Wisconsin. I remember actually setting an alarm and getting up around the way too early hour of 5am to watch the ceremony. I can still picture lying on the floor with my pillow and blanket, never taking my eyes off the TV. The dress, her shyness, the carriage that took them through the streets of well-wishers, we all thought it was like a dream come true. The fairy tale wedding of a young, beautiful woman marrying her prince.

And we know how that ended. Tragically.

Since that wedding I have been in awe of Princess Diana. My mom had this book about her, mostly pictures of her many fashionable outfits, and I would look at it over and over again. I thought she was one of the most beautiful women in the world and the struggles she went through made me only love her more. On that fateful day of her death in Paris, I was in San Diego with a group of girlfriends. We were in shock like the rest of the world, possibly me more than the others, I think they finally told me to shut up when they couldn”t stand hearing me say, ” I can’t believe she is dead”, one more time.

The news station was showing several different times of her life, and I took a picture of the one showing her in her wedding gown. When I had my pictures developed that one of Diana was completely red, you can see her, it is just red. I found it a bit spooky. It wasn’t my film, or the TV, it was Princess Di coming back to me in my camera. Shut up again?

And now, her eldest son, Prince William has asked Kate Middleton to become his wife, and quite possibly the future King and Queen of England. The commoner to be a Princess – every girls dream! Well, mine at least. Waity Katie no more, they dated for over eight years and he finally proposed. (So there is hope!) He gave her his mum’s ring. William saying he has a romantic side and blushing, Kate saying the proposal was romantic. They look very in love and the perfect Prince with his beautiful Princess.

Sigh. Thank you, William and Kate, for being the prince and princess (to be) that little girls dream of.

Freeecards

I used to enjoy sending e-cards to people with hallmark.com for their birthday or a random event. But they soon changed it, and charged you for all the good ones. I found someecards.com with much funnier cards than Hallmark could have ever dreamt of, and they’re FREE! Send one today!

This one goes out to my friend who asks every year if we do the time change in Europe. YES, we do. (But a week before you guys in the states – weird).

Gone Country

EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I am only a little excited about a movie coming out. You mix movies with country music and Gwyneth Paltrow (LOVE) and you got a winner. COUNTRY STRONG with tagline, It Doesn’t Matter Where You’ve Been, As Long As You Come Back Strong. This is gonna be another one of my complete head-over-heels favorites that I buy and watch over and over and over

and over.

I haven’t been this excited for a movie about a singer since George Strait in Pure Country. I cry my eyes out when Harley gets the tickets to Dusty’s show, but she doesn’t know that Dusty is really Dusty. And then he comes out on stage and sings a personal solo to Harley. J.W. is brimming with tears as Grandma Ivy just smiles at nods at her grandson. If you don’t have a tear in your eye, your heart is made of stone.

Here is Kelly Canter  Gwyneth Paltrow singing Country Strong at the CMAs. And don’t forget, that is Oklahoma native and legend Vince Gill singing with her.

To see and be seen.

Lately, I have been in Palma several times – getting my mammogram and waiting for the Audi to be fixed were the two main reasons but within that involved noticing the antics of the Mallorcan tourists (for the most part) but also, a bit of the regular Spanish life.

Things seen:

1. I parked my car in the underground garage and walked up towards the light. Within minutes of emerging I noticed three younger girls (in their early 20s) dressed in the latest fashion of leggings, longer shirts off one shoulder and when I got closer I heard American voices! It is very rare to hear American voices, and even more so for them to come from three ladies in their 20s. It was nice to hear their comments (something about guys, naturally!) but also to see their confidence. I have heard before that Americans have this interesting assurance of oneself, a cockiness even. That I was proud to see. And as they passed, without a notice of an American in their midst, I smiled and felt a bit of homesickness tugging at my heartstrings.

2. Homeless dude walking happily in and out of stores. He had a bit of pep in his step, even without shoes.

3. A mother and father smoking cigarettes around their two young children. The youngest was in a stroller and must have bit? scratched? his mother’s hand because she became very upset with him. She slapped his legs several times and screamed in his face. And then continued to show to her husband and look at her wrist over and over again. If you cannot control your temper to the things that children do without acting like a child yourself, I don’t think one should be allowed to have children. IMO, of course.

4. And then there was the other family spectrum. A couple each with a huge backpack, and in one of those backpacks there was a young baby. They were very sweet with each other and held hands while crossing the street. Yes, they are allowed to have children. I give my stamp of approval.

5. The metro! I love it! It is amazingly clean and never tons of people. The hidden secret of Mallorca. Granted, I have only taken it from the industrial district where I take the Audi to, and then into Placa Espana, but it is my favorite mode of public transportation.

6. Extremely short nuns walking along Paseo Maritimo. They were so very short, but then very round, kind of completely adorable with their black rosary beads hanging from their hands.

7. I would have laughed out loud if I hadn’t been so annoyed at the tourists on their Segways maneuvering through the crowded sidewalks of Palma. Not really sure how they managed the many steps that come about. That kind of went hand in hand with the 15-year-old boy riding a four-wheeler around the main streets of Palma. How is this legal?

8. At the red light while taking my rental car back there was a juggler that came out into the middle of the street to perform. Not too bad of a juggling job and he was at least TRYING to do something, to earn a little money. He walked between the aisle of cars and I raised my hand out the driver’s side window to give him a euro. Once he saw me he put on this show, he strutted, flirted, and gave me glances through his eyelashes. I laughed, gave him the euro and sped through the yellow light before I was subjected to more humiliation.

9. And the last – boys ranging in ages from 10 – 18 all with Justin Bieber haircuts. He has definitely arrived in Spain. Welcome to the Bieber.

Germany · Things and Stuff

hello there

Oh, hi. Hello there. Didn’t see you over there.

Alles gut? Todo bien? Perfecto. Me? Well, thank you for asking. I am just returning from a trip to Germany where many topics were discussed over a lovely dinner at Timmendorfer Strand, Germany; such as, travel, acne, babies, art gallery, naked people at spas and vino tinto.

And hopefully (in a positive way), to be continued …
