Eat ~ Mallorca SA PLACA

Sa Placa restaurant is a lovely place to enjoy tapas. It is located in the small town of S’ Alqueria Blanca in the southeast corner of Mallorca.

Tapas are a wide variety of appetizers. In Spain they have become very popular and ordered in larger quantities that they become a meal. A fantastic meal at that. It always seems to happen to me that the other people I go to dinner with order the better food. But not with tapas! You share tapas (at least you are supposed to) with everyone at the table because they are ordered as a small or a large plate. Obviously the larger the group, the larger the plate and the amount of tapas ordered. Three of us went the other day and we ordered six small plates of tapas and it was the perfect amount.

Sa Placa is a great restaurant to take visitors to, or if you are a tourist on the island then you need to go. The town is small and adorable and the restaurant is right next to the church. They have expanded it so you can sit outside and watch the cars go by – one of my favorite things to do.

My favorite tapas: goat cheese with figs, sobrasada pastry, meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce, shrimp with garlic, black pudding (blood sausage), croquettes, dates with bacon (my total fav), pimientos de padron, patatas bravas and the calamari. Excellent. The other day we had the lamb and the pork which I was not very fond of, they tasted old, no taste actually. I would say stick with the easy favorites and order a nice bottle of Spanish wine to wash it down with.

Eat ~ Mallorca RIBELLO

Do you love Italian food? I DO! Felix and I just went to restaurant RIBELLO in the iconic area of la Longa of Palma. I have been wanting to go here for months and am now kicking myself for not going sooner. It. Was. Fantastic.

The menu wasn’t too extensive but I would believe that every single item would be excellent. Our starters were a spinach dip and prosciutto wrapped around a thick lobster cream. And for the main course I had a spicy tomato based sauce with penne that came with a hunk of buratta (a fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream) on top. And my lovely boyfriend had the lemon pasta with scampi. I think I have to stop writing now because I am so hungry and can only think about the amazing pasta dishes. (Growl) (That was my stomach)

Also on the menu was pizza, beef tenderloin, and a hamburger that I saw come out of the kitchen several times. There is mostly pasta on the menu, it IS an Italian restaurant but there was a decent variety. Plus the prices are super! I was surprised at how reasonably priced the food was for such a popular place.

Ribello is only open for dinner Monday – Saturday. They don’t have a website so here is the info.

Now call for a reservation and GO.

Eat ~ Mallorca ~ FIBONACCI

Fibonacci, the place for pan y café (bread and coffee), but so much more.

I finally checked out this café (and this time I mean café, not coffee). It was all I had been expecting! Well, minus the fact that I was craving the roast beef sandwich I read about. (They were out of the beef à la roasted) So I ordered a tuna fish sandwich and a café (this time coffee – so confusing!) con leche. You got to choose your choice of bread which was a tough decision, they all looked so yummy.

I wish I would have saved room for dessert. The carrot cake was so tempting, so was the chocolate cake, ohhh don’t forget about the cheesecake and what about the apple pie!? Gosh oh golly, I gotta go back. Next time I might try a scone with a macchiato. Or a chicken salad with mozzarella and mango. And don’t forget to grab a fresh loaf of bread to take home with you. Or their selections of olive oil, vinegar, wine, pesto, more more more para llevar (for takeaway).

I went to the Fibonacci in the Portixol area. But they have two other locations around Palma.

Fibonacci! I will return! Please oh PLEASE have some roast beef left for me! Fibonacci, more than bread and coffee.

Eat ~ Mallorca. Cappuccino.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted about the restaurant chain Cappuccino! When I go into Palma I usually end up at one of the Cappuccino restaurants (or Bar Bosch if it isn’t packed) for a cerveza or vino tinto and pa amb oli.

They just keep expanding, every month there is a new restaurant somewhere on the island – please open one in Sa Ràpita!! The food is delicious, the service is impeccable (impressive even for Mallorca), the drinks are cold and the cocktail list is not too shabby indeed. To be honest, I have never had a cocktail here but the pictures look yummy. They also have a really good Japanese restaurant, Tahini, in Puerto Portals. I think I still favor Wasabi for sushi but Tahini would be my second choice. Plus I love going to Puerto Portals to look at all the expensive yachts and the rich people dining out at Tristan.

But at the Cappuccino restaurants I always order the Pa amb Oli. What is that you ask? The most fantastic thing to order for lunch EVER. Pa amb oli means bread with oil in Mallorquin. The bread is rubbed with a tomato and seasoned with olive oil and salt.  It can be served with ham, sausages, cheese, anchovies, vegetables or marinated fish. But I typically see it with jamón serrano (similar to prosciutto) and Mahon cheese, my absolute favorite.

And lookee there, you can order it at all of the Capuccino restaurants.

Pa amb Oli at Cappuccino Borne, Plza. Juan Carlos I, 9.

Who knew tomato rubbed bread could be so delicious?

Went to Wasabi last night. Excellent sushi and rolls. FINALLY, someone figured it out.

There are lots of japanese restaurants on the island but I find most of them have extremely boring options. But the sushi gods granted my pleas for some spicy tuna rolls and an allover great menu variety.

Not only is the food mouth watering but the service was very attentive. Two thumbs up, you won’t be disappointed.

Eat ~ Mallorca

Hey, did you notice my new tab up there ^^? The MALLORCA FAVORITES – It’s new! Soon to list all my favorite things here on the island. Eat, See, Go, Do, Get ~ MALLORCA. I have been living here for over four years now and that is long enough to tell you where to be and how to do it. So check it out.

A favorite place of mine to eat at is Viena in Cas Concos. A small town located in the southeast of the island. The owner is a bit kooky, the food is always excellent and the time spent there is always memorable. The last time I was there the owner showed us pictures from his digital camera; his boots, his socks, and a dead mouse. And check out the paintings in the restaurant, modern yet odd.

Schnitzel minus the german potato salad

The menu can change slightly from time to time but the tried and true always stay the same. For starters (which are tapas), the datiles con bacon and the pimientos de padrón cannot be missed. The goat cheese is excellent too, but very filling. And for your main course, you can never go wrong with the lamb or the duck but the true favorite is the schnitzel. The owner is German and the schnitzel is one of the best I have ever had. Bring your appetite, cuz it is humongous. But don’t worry, they also offer a 1/2 schnitzel which I always take home. And yet, still delicious the next day.

What country is shaped like the featured schnitzel? Kazakstan?
